Carb I think

I had a long ride on the weekend, and decided to go for a short one today. Did not get very far when it just quit.Would not even start on choke, I used the prime position on the fuel lever but made no difference. Then it would start, only to idle for a few seconds. As soon as I tried to give it a litte throttle it would quit. Any suggestions short of taking of the carb would be appreciated.
